COMPLETE: Bonus Triangles Mini from Wedding Dress Blue

After the question about a future quilt design, the responses let me know that many quilters have a supply of bonus/waste triangles sitting around. This did include me.

I pulled out leftovers from the Big Diehl Quilt and trimmed them down to 1-1/2″.

After trying a few options, I settled on a broken dishes block.

Thirty-six blocks later, I had a mini quilt.

It has been delivered to Jennifer, who loves mini quilts. So glad to have the triangles working and off to brighten someone’s day.

PS–I am working to share a variety of projects featuring ...

COMPLETE: Scrappy Potato Chip Quilt from Wedding Dress Blue

I have a bin of assorted 2-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ rectangles. They are handy for a leader-ender quilt. Yes, it is a little crazy, but someone will like it.

Here is THE BLOCK. This one finishes at 60″x72″.

Always fun to have a sneak peek at the backing.

It goes in the donation pile to brighten someone’s day.

COMPLETE: Coin Quilt (courtesy of Susan) from Wedding Dress Blue

When the call went out for donations to support my youth sewing class, Susan sent, not only fabric, but a quilt top that needed to be finished.

And now it is. Finishes at 45″ x 60″ Great use of stripy scraps. You can even see where some of the coins were pieced. Whimsy!

The back is a little wild, and I used scrappy binding from my stash.

It will bless the life of someone soon. Thanks to all of you for the generosity you offer the world. I am fortunate to be part of such a community.

June's Block 2025 from Quilt Doodle Doodles

June is here! The garden is almost in. The seedlings and seed packets are bought. I hope to get things planted later today. At least the flowers are planted, and we are enjoying spending time outside grilling and relaxing on the patio and deck.

In case you are just starting the BOM, the fabric requirements are below. Everything is based on a 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" square and this month's pattern can be found on my website for free this month.

2 yards contrasting color

2 1/2 yards cream background

3/4 yard for the ...

Show And Tell from Wedding Dress Blue

I love it when you share!

Charlene made this striking version of Calico Rose.

Sandy built this 100-patch quilt. And I love that bedframe!

Mary Q. made the cheerful version of Stutter Steps. She was particularly pleased that the math worked out and it was 36″ square when finished.

Mary Q. also made her version of the 100-patch quilt. So much fun!

Cheryl made this stunning Film at Five for her niece. I love the way the center patches are pieced.

Mary made this astonishing version of Irish Stars and entered it into a quilt show.

Marilyn made this baby ...

Pink and Gray from Wedding Dress Blue

Two interesting piles came to me in scrap bags: Binding. But not just any binding. A lot of binding. Both were 2-1/2″ wide. The pink was scrappy from a variety of fabrics. The gray was jelly roll strips stitched together.

They languished in my bindings box, constantly overlooked. But, they had potential. Ironed out, I cut 2-1/2″ squares. And pieced 8-patch blocks.

Joined together (and bound with the remaining pink binding) they will keep a baby warm.

I plan to make a larger similar quilt in the future. Great use for a jelly roll. Or a layer cake ...

Border Thoughts from Fret Not Yourself

To use the world well, to be able to stop wasting it and our time in it, we need to relearn our being in it.
~Ursula Le Guin

Quilting

Ocean Waves V has been languishing for months while I consider a border. Unless something is added to the block centers {such as appliqué or a pieced star} the pattern only seems to differ in the borders and the background color. Previously I've made dark blue, red, and white backgrounds but each border is different.

The first was my favorite border because the waves seem to run up onto the ...

I have three active Works In Progress:

Random scrap quilt–playing with low volume backgrounds.

Patriotic 6″ blocks–part of a seasonal quilt set in the works.

None are close to a finish, but they are closer than they were a week ago…

May's Block from Quilt Doodle Doodles

It's May Day! Spring is officially here! Gardening is in full swing here; I am redoing a perennial garden that is right off my deck. I'm pretty much starting from scratch. I'm going from a shade garden to a full sun garden since we took down a large oak tree last fall. There's lots of prep work to be done before I can start planting anything. I have been finding muscles that I didn't even knew existed and finding that I poop out quicker then I used to. I've been trying to put in ...

Second Chance Quilt: Little Bits from Wedding Dress Blue

In a hand-me-down bag there were these little bits. A 1-1/2″ strip with 6 1-1/2″ squares attached. Twenty of them. Such cute little bits. They wanted to be a quilt.

Adding 6″ stars in matching colors and some sashing fit the bill. I like the way it makes the stars shimmer with movement.

The polka dot binding was an unexpected decision, and the backing is a little odd, too. But they do work, and it all came from stash, so that’s a win.

Second Chance projects can make one dig deep to find a solution. I do ...

Coon Dash Quilt COMPLETE from Wedding Dress Blue

In a scrap bag I got small scraps of this raccoon/bear/tree fabric. Sort of odd colors, but the print was cute.

The solution was Churn Dash blocks with the fabric in the centers. And some sashing and matching binding.

It will be delivered to a co-worker who is expecting her first baby soon. The baby shower was a few weeks ago…but we are all doing the best we can.

Churn Dash blocks are so versatile.

Arkansas Crossroads COMPLETE from Wedding Dress Blue

Based on the traditional pattern, Arkansas Crossroads (AKA Crossroads, Kisses and Crosses, River Scraps, and probably other names). I started this quilt sometime in August 2024. You can find variations all over the web: HERE and HERE and HERE are some options.

Mine is based on 2″ squares and finishes at 84″ square.

I didn’t want half-stars/medallions, so I tried for a different finish that keeps them all whole and gives a sort of floating look.

The backing makes my heart happy!

It is living on a guest room bed for now. So I can see it every ...

Brightly Harry Potter: COMPLETE from Wedding Dress Blue

One of the nice things about binding is that you can work on it a-few-minutes-here-and-a-few-minutes-there, and, before you know it–You’re Done!

Unpredictable winter-spring weather means indoor pictures. Not the best, but the best I could do. I really love the color mix in this quilt. Inspired by Harry Potter, the colors are green, blue, red and yellow. But, so MANY of each color. That’s the thing I LOVE about scrappy quilts.

And the Brightly pattern is a sure winner. I have made several now and the receivers all love them.

Variable Star COMPLETE (And Mini Tutorial) from Wedding Dress Blue

This is a great pattern to use up jelly roll leftovers. In fact, a bunch of those (already conveniently sewn into sets) is what inspired this pattern.

The strip sets are 6 strips high and 12-1/2″ wide. The stars are also 12 inches (finished). I used a plan similar to THIS TUTORIAL: https://www.createwithclaudia.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/CWC-Mystery-Quilt-Along-2020-November-Block.pdf

I matched the star centers and the binding. I would like to do this again and highlight a focal fabric in the star centers.

This quilt will be donated to the local childrens hospital.

Bonus HST's Quilt ~ 5 Inch Cake Stand Block from Podunk Pretties

Hi Quilty Friends!  It's time for me to start using up those bonus HST's of which I have thousands. Just how many?  Well, I counted them about 3 years ago and there was about 3500 but I've added many more since and didn't count the additions.  So, my guess would be around 4,000 ranging from 1 inch all the way up to 5 inches.

The Cake Stand quilt will require (1014) 1.75" HST's and (169) 3" HST's.  The three ziploc bags of 1.75" HST's have been sorted by color into ...

Baby Henry’s Quilt: Complete from Wedding Dress Blue

Baby Henry should receive his quilt today.

While I usually work with small pieces, the simple, bold look of this quilt pleases me. And it allows larger prints to shine. And I love the unexpected-but-perfect binding.

The print squares started at 6″. The HST as squares of 6-1/2″. The quilt finishes at +-39″.

ps–I am not sure why these pictures are poor, but the quilt is in the mail, and I cannot retake them. I hope you can get the idea anyway. These things sometimes happen.

March Block 2025 from Quilt Doodle Doodles

Happy March, my spring fever is still in full swing here! uggg... I'm thinking of finally pulling out the Easter decorations this month. At least it will feel like spring in the house. We have had some beautiful weather with warmer temperatures, but too early and too cold to work in the gardens. I have ordered some seeds and have been making my list for the greenhouse. May is still so far away... I'll keep stitching away with my pretty fabrics until garden time is here.
